What to bring to your exam:
Please bring the following things to your exam. This will help to expedite the check-in process:
- Picture ID
- Vision Insurance card
- Medical Insurance card
- Any eye glasses you use or have recently used.
- List of medications you are currently taking (or you can give us permission to pull a list from your pharmacy)
- Any questions you have for the Optometrist
- Patient Forms (if you downloaded them online and filled them out prior to the appointment)
What to expect during your visit:
- If you haven’t already completed our annual patient forms, we’ll ask you to do so before your appointment begins.
- Before seeing the doctor, one of our friendly ophthalmic technicians will perform a series of "pre-tests" to gather important information about your eyes and vision. Your vision will be checked at every visit to help guide your care.
- During your exam, the doctor will:
- Use a phoroptor (the "1 or 2 machine") to determine your eyeglass prescription.
- Examine the front and back of your eyes with a slit lamp—a microscope with a bright light—to check for cataracts, dry eye, and other conditions.
- Retinal health is essential. We recommend evaluating your retina every year using either:
- Dilation drops – which temporarily blur vision and increase light sensitivity for 7 hours or more and extend your visit by about 30 minutes.
- Optomap imaging – a fast, side-effect-free photo of your retina.
- After all testing is complete, your doctor will review the results, answer your questions, and provide any necessary prescriptions for glasses, contact lenses, or medical treatments.
- If needed, you may be scheduled for additional specialized testing (such as scans for glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, or macular degeneration). These tests are performed at a separate visit and billed to your medical insurance.
Our optical shop is open during regular office hours — feel free to stop by at your convenience.
